Wouldn’t it be cool to meet a mythical beast and prove to the world that it was in fact real? This has been the dream of UFO enthusiasts and Chupacabra hunters everywhere. Director Don Swanson fulfills a similar desire in his new film A Wish for Giants (2018).

In the movie, Sophie (Naysa Altmeyer) takes on a new assignment as a volunteer at the Wish Kingdom Foundation. A young girl named Roxie (Alexa Mechling) with a serious medical condition wishes to meet Bigfoot. It’s Sophie’s job to somehow make it happen…

This film is a change of pace for us here at Indie Horror Online. It’s a drama with elements of fantasy thrown in for good measure. There’s plenty of discussion about the nature of Bigfoot and what it might actually be that I found interesting from a genre fan perspective.

A Wish for Giants is essentially a heart-warming family movie. The film has some wonderful awe-inspiring moments that I really enjoyed. If you’re a Bigfoot aficionado, there’s definitely something here for you to enjoy, and you can do it with your entire clan.

Stan Gordon makes a special appearance in this film. He’s a UFO investigator who also appeared in America’s Alien Invasion: The Lost UFO Encounters (2012), American Sasquatch Hunters: Bigfoot in America (2013) and Mountain Devil (2017).

The movie is based on a novel by Aaron Dunbar. His heartfelt story has translated well to the screen, and his lifelong devotion to Bigfoot research is clearly there as well. The book’s title refers to the idea that Bigfoot may be a descendent of the giants mentioned in the Bible.

I don’t want to spoil the movie’s ending, so I’ll restrict my comments to how Bigfoot is perceived earlier in the film. At one point it is seen on television, and later it turns up in someone’s dream. Bigfoot is also the main subject of Roxie’s beautiful drawings.

There’s also a mostly evil individual named Derek (Connor McClain) who adds some intensity to the film’s plot. A Wish for Giants takes us on an earnest mission to discover hidden magic. It might just conjure up some enchantment for you too…
