Love them or leave them, found footage horror films are here to stay. They aren’t going away, mostly because they provide a cost effective way to create supernatural mayhem. I’ve accepted that and always look for what’s new about this ever-expanding tradition.

A sequel is something this genre doesn’t see too often. Director Stephen Cognetti gives us exactly that with his newest film, Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel (2018).

In the movie, an investigative team is convinced that the truth behind an eight-year-old tragedy will be found inside an abandoned hotel. The team breaks into the building in order to find evidence and shed some light on what happened there…

This movie is a direct sequel to Hell House LLC (2015) and is set in the same creepy location. There’s a new team investigating the Abaddon Hotel, and it’s members are driven by curiosity over past events. A third movie is in the planning stages and will likely follow a similar format.

Like the first movie, this one takes place at an actual Halloween attraction known as The Haunting at the Waldorf Hotel. This is a wonderful use for an existing locale. There’s a lot of running around that goes on inside, which give us a peak at what makes this haunt so special.

The film is presented as a documentary with interviews, video clips, text messages, and other devices that help to advance the story. These methods add variety to the movie too, allowing us to see the story from several different perspectives.

Jillian Geurts is excellent as a tough investigative journalist named Jessica Fox. She eventually breaks down when the situation gets out of control. Laura Frenzer also provides an emotional and convincing performance in the role of Wendy Mallet.

I haven’t seen Hell House LLC as of this writing, so I can honestly tell you that this film is completely accessible on its own. The Morning Mysteries television segments definitely help to keep things clear for even the most casual viewer.

Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel is teeming with jump scares and bizarre happenings. Check in for a spooky time…
